As future custodians of Fairfield public open spaces,
children have intense and valid opinions on this issue, and deserve to be be heard.
This petition for kids was written and designed by Kelly, aged 9, resident of Fairfield,
who will coordinate and tally signatures herself.
(She refers to changes in §10, §24, and §26 of the Fairfield Open Space Regulations, which now permit
an individual to "disturb," "injure," or "destroy" wildlife and their "habitat(s)" in "any" of these public places):

People walk their dogs at Fairfield’s open spaces every day. Even if they don’t live in Fairfield. We might not be safe walking there again! There is a plan to close town-owned open spaces to hunting. That would mean that guns and other deadly weapons would be allowed in the areas where we play and walk our dogs. Hunters would come to our open spaces and shoot at wild animals and ruin their habitats. These animals should be left alone! Our pets and families could be in danger walking through open spaces with all those hunters walking around, shooting at things. I love walking my dogs at Lake Mohegan or Hoyden's Hill and in the other open spaces but I would be scared walking around with hunters with guns and bow and arrows everywhere. Please take action to prohibit the uses of deadly weapons and the killing of wildlife in Fairfield’s Open Spaces.
I am putting my name below, to tell Fairfield government, do not do this!"
